About 38.5 percent of the 1,446 degrees and certificates handed out by the Western Oregon University in 2016-17 were to students in Education programs, making them the most popular programs that year, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

The agency's National Center for Education Statistics shows the public institution in Monmouth conferred 285 certificates and 169 master's degrees in Education programs.

But the single most popular program was for a bachelor's degree in Business/Commerce, General. Data shows the school gave out 150 bachelor's degrees in Business/Commerce, General, followed by 145 certificates in Teacher Education, Multiple Levels and 103 bachelor's degrees in Education, General.

The university enrolled 5,382 students for 2016-17, including 4,833 in undergraduate programs and 549 in graduate programs.
